Wizards has updated the playtest document for the 5e Mystic class. Take a look at it here.
updates include:
- The class now goes to 10th level. The core concepts had enough support that we feel confident moving forward with them.
- Psionics is more flexible. You have a psychic focus, which allows you to pick one discipline and gain a constant, special benefit from it. Otherwise, you can expend points to use any discipline you know.
- Psionics now includes psionic talents, the equivalent of a spellcasterÂ’s cantrips.
- Psionic disciplines are now available to all mystics, regardless of mystic order. However, your order grants you a benefit for using its associated disciplines.
Wizards of the Coast has been asking the public for feedback on various aspects of the latest version of Dungeons & Dragons. In their latest survey they're asking about settings that people would like to see updated to 5th editions as well as what classes and races they'd like to see.
Dark Sun fans, this is a great opportunity for us to make our voice heard. Make sure to select Dark Sun in the settings section. For the classes section there are no psionic classes. For the races, be sure to select Half-Giant and Thri-Kreen. There is a box for open text you can include your own comments. That'd be a great place to add the psionic classes (Psion, PsyBlade, Psychic Warrior, Ardent) and perhaps the Mul race.
Psionics have always been a part of the Dark Sun setting. Within the cultures of Athas psionics are referred to as the Way of the Unseen. They are a utilization of inner power, a blending of the physical and spiritual energies to create fantastic effects.

Today Wizards of the Coast released the Elemental Evil Player's Companion. This is more or less a set of character races and spells. What Dark Sun fans will be interested in is the races, Aarakocra, Goliath, and Genasi (there's even a sidebar entitled Genasi on Athas) as well as a slew of elemental themed spells.
So if you're playing Dark Sun with D&D 5th edition, this is a must own....and it's free!
With the new release of Dungeons & Dragons this year much of the Dark Sun community has asked about the future of Athas and while we don't have an answer for you in that regard we do have a peek of one of Dark Sun's most prominent creatures. Later this month the new Monster Manual for Dungeons & Dragons will be released, and with it, the Thri-Kreen.
